Current Issue: Volume 26, Number 1 (2026) C.J. Box Symposium Issue
Introduction
Renowned Wyoming fiction author C.J. Box grapples with the intersection of law and fiction throughout his novels—specifically, through his famous fictional character, Joe Pickett. Pickett—a Wyoming game warden whose career brings him to the forefront of intricate legal issues—consistently engages with legal questions that are both regionally specific and nationally resonant. For example, his adventures frequently involve conflicts concerning property rights, wildlife management, criminal jurisdiction, federalism, governmental corruption, and tensions between individual autonomy and state authority. This special issue of the Wyoming Law Review explores the intersection of law and fiction, using Box’s work as a focal point for understanding how legal issues portrayed through fiction shape, reflect, and, at times, influence real-world law.
